Balancing three days of classes, four days of work and all of those nights of homework is cutting into time that I get to update my sketchbook. Luckily, I get lots of time to do some off the top of my head sketches during my Lit class. Here is today's page. I'll get the updated hansel and gretel up soon as well as the the final drawing soon!
Here's a current project I'm working on: my take on Hansel and Gretel.
I usually don't show all of my sketches here that go towards a finished project, but here it goes: an exhaustive look at my process. I like to do a bunch of drawing before I ever go into any of my graphic design or illustration. Click on any of the images to make them bigger.
I do have a process in which I like to work, but the style can vary greatly. I started out trying to find a look that I wanted to go for.
I liked the real chubby, classic-animation-esque Hansel and Gretel.
I try some other faces out..I think I like the one with curly hair.
I tried lots of witches, but the last one is the most fitting with the cartoony Hansel and Gretel.
I'll have final sketches for the characters and the environments the next time I post for Hansel and Gretel.
I don't know if you are aware, but Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots will be a real musical penned by Aaron Sorkin (West Wing, Sports Night) featuring music from The Flaming Lips and produced by Des McAnuff (The Who's Tommy). This is real sketch and a fake poster for a real play.
